The ‘Winter Swimming Movement’ was established in NSW in 1959 when seven neighbouring Surf Life Saving Clubs met in order to form the NSW Winter Swimming Association. The object of this association was to organise annual winter swimming competitions where members could compete and socialise.
The Cottesloe Crabs Winter Swimming Club (Inc) was formed on the 24th June 1973. We affiliated firstly with the then, NSW Winter Swimming Association in 1974 and 1975.
Then, after pushing for a National Winter Swimming Body, the Cottesloe Crabs became affiliated with the newly formed Winter Swimming Association of Australia in 1976 and began to build a very impressive and successful history within the association.
Now in our 42nd year, the ‘Crabs’ have won nine National pennants, had fifty-three individual National Champions, thirty-seven National relay titles and with the exception of two years, have won every State Championship pennant.
